Mark 1:14-20 (with Jonah 3:1-10)
January 22, 2012

In our passage from Markâs Gospel for this morning, we getâ right off the topâ Jesusâ summary statement as he enters ministry, as he embarks on three years of traveling through Galilee as an itinerant teacher, preacher, and healer. âThis is Godâs momentâ Godâs reign is beginning right now among usâ turn your whole life towards it and entrust yourself completely to what I am announcing." Jesus packed those first words with potency, with attention-grabbing urgency and an impassioned call for immediate response. As we hear Jesus' words again today, will we let them have such an impact on us? Will we allow ourselves to be transformed by their invitation in the way those first disciples powerfully, inexplicably were?
